Why I Began this Mission PDF Print E-mail

SURVIVOR ON A MISSION was created by Pamela Michell, who escaped a serial offender after he failed in his attempt to strangle her after months being held captive and tortured.  The primary goal is to peak awareness of family violence, then to refine and deliver a collaborative safety net system that can be replicated across the country and modified for application abroad. With a revenue component that exceeds operational delivery costs, collaborative partners will enhance safety of citizens at home and abroad.  A key element in our advocacy campaign is attaining consistency in state reporting laws, bringing Georgia, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Washington State consistent with the rest of the country.

Pamela began her career as a professional fundraiser in Phoenix at Homeward Bound, under the tutelage of Dr. Pamela Martin in the 90s.  Homeward Bound provides transitional housing and services for homeless and domestic violence families.  The level of training Dr. Martin afforded the entire organizational staff was second to none.  In 2000, Pamela moved to Southern California and after serving briefly as a grantwriter for Beyond Shelter, was seduced by the youthful, positive vibe of Boys and Girls Clubs.

Quickly, Dr. Martin’s teachings receded in my mind.  I even forgot there was a national hotline!  As we are conditioned to 911, so we must be conditioned to 1-800-799-SAFE…the National Domestic Violence Hotline that receives over 20,000 calls each month, listening and making referrals to callers who don’t know who they can trust.  Still, only a small percentage utilizes NDVH services.

Supplemented by blog the site will additionally include a data base of free subscribers to receive awareness alerts, success stories and cautionary tales to keep awareness peaked and let regular folks know how they can help. http://survivoronamission.blogspot.com

Finally, this site and blog retraces this survivors own post-traumatic shift from Survive to Thrive, illuminating the path for those affected by childhood or adult trauma to reclaim the quality of life we all deserve!

Step out of silence and support advocacy for change, or quietly release yourself from victimization…the choice is YOURS.  We are here to support YOU.”
